Conduction and Radiation Heat Transfer Calculations

  

A customer wanted to scale up their existing process of heat treating large sheets and plates of material. The new furnace design was simulated using 2D conduction radiation calculations. The power input to the heaters was determined by implementing a feed-back controller which used the temperature of the control thermocouple to determine the power input. The results of this simulation are shown in the above figure. The analysis showed that the temperature non-uniformity in the worst-case scenario is 2 °C.
